INEC RESCHEDULES GENERAL ELECTIONS

The Chairman Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor 
Mahmood Yakubu has announced the postponement of the Presidential / National Assembly elections till Saturday 23rd of February

Similarly, Governorship / State House of Assembly and Federal Capital Territory, Area Council elections have also been rescheduled till Saturday 9th of March respectively.

The INEC Chairman made this known in Abuja after a meeting with INEC Commissioners on the preparation for the poll.

According to the INEC Chairman, the rescheduled-of the election became necessary in view of careful review of logistics and operational plan for the elections.

Professor Mahmoud who stated that it was a difficult decision for the commission stressed that the step became necessary to ensure a free, fair and credible poll.

He however added that a meeting has been scheduled with Key stakeholders at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, by 2 pm today
