The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works is to carryout a road safety audit on the Otedola bridge in Lagos due to the incessant road accident involving articulated vehicles.

Corps Marshal FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi who disclosed this in Lagos at a stakeholder’s meeting with Tank Farm Operators in the country said there was need to reexaminae the design again to ascertain if there was a problem.

Mr. Oyeyemi said almost every week, accidents involving tankers and trailers leaving Lagos often occur on the Otedola bridge.

According to him, last week alone 3 cases were recorded of tankers and trailers either falling or brokedown resulting in a gridlock compounding the traffic situation on the road with the ongoing road construction.

Mr. Oyeyemi said 60% of crashes involving tankers and trailers happen on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, adding that decisive action had to be taken to reduce this to the barest.

He therefore called for fleet renewal by haulage operators in addressing the alarming rate of accidents involving articulated vehicles.

The FRSC boss also proposed the ban on the importation of haulage vehicles exceeding 10 years from the date of manufacture with effect from 1st January 2020.
